There are bigger stores with more choices, but there are not better people. When the power went out all over town (for 7 days!) they brought in generators to keep the store open, stocked up on ice and batteries and generally helped out the town. The personnel are friendly and extremely interested in helping the locals. When you want something they do not have, they try to get it. We wanted more organic produce so that got it. The prices are lower here than at other Ralph's. This is a true neighborhood grocery store even though its part of a grocery chain. They wanted to expand but were unable to get the adjacent property. They do a good job with the space that they have.

What people are saying
The people who work at Ralphs try really hard to help. They are really good people. Ralphs is closing their store the end of January. I wish Ralphs would have built the large store like they said they were going to do originally. It would have been great!
Despite its extreme convenience being next to my house, we still attempt to avoid going to this Ralphs for all but very light shops. The selection is definitely smaller than usual, as the footprint of the store is significantly smaller than their normal behemoths. However, it's the quality of the perishables: we've bought rotten milk, moldy cheese, and moldy bread by accident all well within expiration date. Obviously there is both a problem keeping items refrigerated properly as well as checking the stock to ensure quality. The staff are generally quite friendly albeit savory characters. However, my "fellow" shoppers are definitely not pleasant. From argumentative customers debating whether they were returned the right number of pennies to people insisting that their receipt is wrong, I am often embarrassed and ashamed of the other shoppers. I wince for the workers who have to deal with these people regularly. I deeply wish Ralphs would improve this store, but I suspect the real problem is with the clientele. The wealthier denizens of Altadena likely are avoiding this store, ensuring the problems remain and upgrade are quite distant.
Its as good as 7-eleven, I don't do my major shopping there, just quick stuff. I drive the extra miles to the Hastings Ranch or La Canada Ralphs, its a shame that an up scale area like Altadena doesn't have a good market. No meat or deli department, boo. Bring Bristol Farms to the empty lot!!!
Their African American female manager follow my African American adult daughter while she was walking down the aisle. C'mon Ralph she's employ and make her own money. I'm sick and tire of your employees and Target racial profiling my daughter. If both store continue I'm going to contact our local new station and suggest all our friends and family to boycott. Ralph please retrain your managers & employees. If it wasn't for customers making purchases, your managers and employees wouldn't even have a job. If my daughter was a shoplifting now why would she stand in the checkout line and purchase the items? Ralphs African American female manager have no logic. Someone who is shoplifting wouldn't stand in a checkout. Ralph & Target security employees are stupid.
