The café was deep in the morning rhythm, four orders stacked ahead of mine. Behind the counter, they worked with steady patience. Time was tight for me, (job exam), I tried to tell them to set my drink aside and serve the next guy. I'd come back later.
But they looked at me & insisted it would be ready soon. I didn't want to break their stride, so I stayed. When the cup was in my hand, the clock had bested me. Coffee & food were good, so I got what I paid for.
Simply the way the morning fell.
I've been a long-time customer of Europane, but now I'm rethinking my loyalty. Today I bought an almond croissant that tasted three-days old: dry and flavorless. Granted, it was the day after a holiday. However, if the croissant really was left over, then they should not charge the full $6 price for it. If it was fresh, then the quality truly has declined!
Absolutely INSANE prices.
I have been eating here for years. The food is decent, and the staff is super nice. Unfortunately, the owner recently decided to increase prices to an absurd amount. You now pay over $24.00 for a salad, with no protein. Half a block away, across the street is Fogo Di Chao, where they offer a full, all-you-can-eat salad bar with soup, charcuterie, mashed potatoes, and cheese bread for just over $18. Even with tip that comes up less than the cost at Europane.
I suspect that the business is failing, and the owner is trying a last-ditch effort to make a little money before going out of business for good, but I don't think trying to milk customers for money is a good plan. I will not be eating here anymore.
