My wife and I enjoyed our Anniversary Dinner at Betsy recently, and we had a lovely evening. We experienced amazing service from our server and all the staff resetting the table between courses. The smells and vibe are so welcoming as well. When food came out, we were obsessed with the buttered dinner rolls. You must get them. We also had the peas, gnocchi, salmon, and New York strip. All of which were really good, but we felt some items were heavy on butter. In the end, Betsy blessed us with a dessert for our Anniversary and the cheesecake was delicious. All in all, we’d recommend you snag a reservation and come check out Betsy. This is a business that anchors in Altadena despite the destruction around it, and we felt the love that Betsy has for Altadena. It deserves our love and support back.

So we had a 4 top by the window and it was loud then it got real reasonable. The place is small and designed well loads of counter abs table and outside seating. We split everything and it was all outstanding and the service .... sincere friendly service. Sam was our server and asked about allergies and knew the menu inside and out. We ordered so much and I swear the pork chop was unreal. It was not on a bone but sliced and the portion fed us all. The other dish was the salmon and sliced in 4 portions and we went but not as big as the pork chop. Cesar salad came with anchovies not too many and huge .... too much dressing but Dee lish ....... the Parker house rolls were perfect and buttered ! The cheese plate was generous and the focaccia bread toasted so well and the cheese was a soft soft cheese oh tasty. I love how everything is cooked in the wood burning oven. Desert get the mouse with real whip cream ..... the cobbler was like a giant sliced cake with Real whip cream ..... Moose was better
Driving through Altadena, it really makes you realize how important places like Betsy are to the neighborhood. It brings a sense of life and energy back to the area, and you can feel that the moment you walk in. Even during a busy dinner service, the team stayed friendly and calm the whole night. Nothing felt rushed, and everyone seemed to work well together, which made the atmosphere feel comfortable and relaxed. The menu is seasonal and very ingredient-focused. The ingredients are really the main focus here, while the cooking stays more simple and restrained. You get hints of wood fire smoke here and there, but most of the flavor comes from the quality of the ingredients themselves. We sat near the wood-fire cooking area, and it was actually fun watching the kitchen work through service. The heat, smell of the fire, and movement of the kitchen added to the dinner without taking attention away from the food or conversation. Sometimes a simple dinner and good conversation are more than enough, and Betsy does that really well.
Had dinner at Betsy and left with all of my expectations met. The space itself is beautiful—such an inviting atmosphere, and it’s very cool to watch the chefs cooking over the live fire. It really adds to the experience and gives the place a warm, lively energy. Food-wise, dishes were fantastic. The Caesar salad was great - everthing was fresh and cold, the cauliflower was absolutely incredible, and the rolls were fine. We loved the rib-eye steak, cut to perfect. The only remark I have is that I wish I had more of the smokey flavor. Felt like it lacked that dense smokyness from the wood-fire grill but that's a minor thing. We also had the potatoes, and they were delicious. The desserts were delicious. We had the Wood Oven Cheescake which took me back to Basque Country in Spain. But the main star in my opinion was the cobler. I could have that every day. SO GOOD! Service was generally great. Overall, some truly great dishes and an amazing ambiance. It made my day happy.
We unfortunately didn't get a chance to sit inside but the vibe outside was great; lots of tables so you don't feel alone. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable of their food and drink menu. Highlights food wise were the daily crudo, the pork and the cheesecake. Other items we tried were great but not a must. Glad to see this place thrive in all the chaos that happened in Altadena.
